Berkly Strike Team

Report Date: May 12, 2006

Well me and Capt. Rob Womble took Kyle Boker, from Berkeley Tackle company fishing today. He wanted to go out for a couple hours this morning and try out some of the products he would be selling under the tent they have set up in the Howell Tackle parking lot. All I can say is wow. Fourteen redfish. Two double's and a near triple.
We polled up on to the flats at the mouth of a creek feeding into West Bay. Right away we were seeing tailing reds. We started off with the Johnson spoon (black) and hooked up immediately. As the hooked redfish came closer to the boat he had a couple of his friends with him. Kyle threw a 4" Gulp shrimp into the school and we had our first double. The action stayed pretty fast for about two hours.
The reds started to get a little spooky being in the creek with our boat blocking the exit to the bay. That's when the Gulp earned it's keep. Kyle and myself started throwing the Gulp up ahead into the creek and just let it sit. Capt. Rob stayed with the spoon. He would make a long cast and drag it back through the reds. Some of them would give chase but wouldn't take it. As soon as they got close enough to pick up the sent of the Gulp they drop down on it and we would have another hook-up. All in all the Spoon and the Gulp ended producing about the same. Had a great day on the water.
Remember to check your gear the night before. On the water while your looking at tailing redfish is the wrong time to realize you didn't bring the right tackle or forgot to spool the rod with fresh line. If you need to know what they are biting on or where to go give us a call. Or you can call stop by Howell Tackle and ask for me. If I'm not there I'll be on the water. Good Luck.
